Orthodontic treatment during childhood and the teen years can play a key role in creating a healthy, confident smile. At Nexus Orthodontics, we provide braces for teens and young children in New Hyde Park and surrounding communities, with treatment plans designed to support growing smiles at every stage.
Whether your child needs early orthodontic guidance or full braces during their teen years, our team focuses on comfort, clarity, and long-term results.
When Should Children See an Orthodontist?
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children have their first orthodontic evaluation by age 7. At this stage, we can identify potential issues early—often before all permanent teeth have come in.
An early evaluation doesn’t always mean immediate treatment. In many cases, it simply allows us to monitor growth and determine the ideal time to begin braces if needed.
Early orthodontic treatment, sometimes called Phase 1 treatment, focuses on guiding jaw growth and creating space for incoming permanent teeth.
Early treatment may help:
Correct crowding before it worsens
Guide jaw development
Reduce the risk of impacted teeth
Make future orthodontic treatment shorter or simpler
If early treatment is recommended, we’ll clearly explain the goals, timing, and next steps so parents can make informed decisions.

Braces for Teens
The teenage years are the most common time to begin braces. By this stage, most or all permanent teeth have erupted, making it an ideal time to straighten teeth and correct bite issues.
Braces for teens can:
Improve tooth alignment and bite function
Enhance confidence during formative years
Support long-term oral health
At Nexus Orthodontics, we work closely with teens to help them understand their treatment and stay motivated throughout the process.
How Long Do Braces Take for Teens and Children? How Much Do Braces for Teens and Children Cost?
The cost of braces depends on:
The type of braces used
The length and complexity of treatment
Whether early treatment is involved
At Nexus Orthodontics, we offer flexible payment plans and work with many insurance providers to make orthodontic care more accessible for families. We’ll review all costs and payment options clearly before treatment begins.
Treatment time varies depending on the complexity of your child’s orthodontic needs. On average, braces for teens and children last between 12 and 24 months.
We’ll provide a personalized treatment timeline during your consultation and keep you informed throughout the process.
