Getting braces is an exciting decision — and we want you to feel completely at ease throughout the entire process. Here's exactly what to expect from your very first visit to your brand-new smile.

Step One

Initial Consultation

Your journey begins with a warm, no-pressure consultation with your Nexus orthodontist. This is your chance to ask every question you have, share any concerns, and get a clear picture of what treatment might look like for you. We'll take a close look at your teeth, bite, and jaw using the latest imaging technology — all completely comfortable and non-invasive.

What to expect: A relaxed 45–60 minute appointment where you'll leave with a full understanding of your options, a rough timeline, and a good feeling about the road ahead.

Step Two

Personalised Treatment Plan

No two smiles are alike, and neither are our treatment plans. Using your scans, X-rays, and clinical assessment, we'll design a plan that's built entirely around you — your goals, your lifestyle, and your timeline. We'll walk you through exactly how your teeth will move, which type of braces will suit you best, and a realistic picture of how long treatment will take.

Good to know: We'll go over all costs and payment options at this stage so there are no surprises. Our team is always on hand to help you find a plan that works for your budget.

Step Three

Braces Placement Day

This is the day it all begins! Placing your braces is a straightforward, comfortable appointment that typically takes between one and two hours. We'll carefully bond each bracket to your teeth and thread the archwire through — and before you know it, you'll be leaving our New Hyde Park practice with braces on and a smile that's already on its way to where it needs to be.

Heads up: Your teeth may feel a little tender for the first few days as they begin to adjust — this is completely normal and a good sign that things are moving in the right direction. Soft foods and over-the-counter pain relief will be your best friends this week.

Step Four

Monitoring, Adjusting & Fine-Tuning

Throughout your treatment, you'll visit us every 6–8 weeks for check-up appointments. These are quick, routine visits where we assess your progress, make small adjustments to your wires, and ensure everything is tracking perfectly. Think of these as your regular check-ins — a chance for us to celebrate how far your smile has come, and to keep everything moving on schedule.

Step Five

Braces Removal Day

The moment you've been working toward! Removing your braces is a quick, painless process — and the result is nothing short of incredible. We'll gently remove each bracket, polish your teeth to a shine, and then hand you a mirror for the big reveal. Seeing your new smile for the first time is one of our favourite moments, and we love celebrating it with you.

The big day: We'll also take final photographs and scans so you can compare where you started to where you are now. The difference will amaze you.

Step Six

Retainers & Long-Term Maintenance

A beautiful smile is for life — and retainers are the key to keeping it that way. After your braces come off, we'll fit you for a custom retainer designed to hold your teeth in their new positions as your bone and tissue settle. We'll guide you through exactly how and when to wear your retainer, and what to expect in the months ahead.
