"Dr. Fung and the whole crew are kind, patient, and professional. It is truly a pleasure to have Dr. Fung as my son's orthodontist. Without a doubt, my daughter will be seeing Dr. Fung in a few years as well."— Jalen
Invisalign and Braces for Lake Success Families
Clear aligners, traditional braces, and early treatment for children — planned and delivered by Dr. Shauna Fung, a board-certified orthodontist. Our office is on Hillside Avenue in New Hyde Park, the neighboring village to Lake Success.
Invisalign in Lake Success
Invisalign uses a series of custom-made clear trays that move your teeth gradually, with each set worn for about one to two weeks. They're removable for meals and brushing, and nearly invisible in conversation — which is why most of the Lake Success families who find us are asking about aligners first.
The trade-off is discipline: aligners work only while they're in, and they need 20 to 22 hours of wear a day. If that's unrealistic for a particular patient, Dr. Fung will say so and talk through braces instead. We'd rather recommend the treatment that finishes well than the one that sounds easiest.
What aligners can do, and what they can't
What Invisalign treats well
Crowded teeth, gaps and spacing, mild to moderate bite problems, and relapse — teeth that drifted after a previous round of orthodontic treatment, which is one of the most common reasons adults come back to us years later.
Where braces are the better answer
Complex movements, significant bite correction, and cases where a patient realistically won't manage the wear time. Aligners can tip teeth within the bone you already have, but they can't widen the underlying jaw — a genuinely narrow arch in a growing child is an expander case, not an aligner case. We'd rather tell you that at the consultation than halfway through.
How treatment actually runs
It starts with a consultation and a full examination, then a digital iTero scan instead of a tray of impression material — faster, more comfortable, and the scan is stored so a lost aligner or retainer can be remade without starting from scratch.
From there you get a custom plan and your first set of trays. You'll come in periodically so Dr. Fung can check that the teeth are tracking to plan. Aligners generally produce fewer urgent visits than braces — there are no brackets to pop off — though when something does go wrong, our guide to aligner problems covers what counts as urgent.
Trays come out for meals and for anything other than water, and go back in straight after brushing. Expect mild pressure for a day or so with each new set; that's the tooth movement you're paying for.
Then retention, for good
Finishing treatment isn't the end. Teeth drift throughout life, and the lower front teeth are the least stable in the mouth — which is why a retainer worn at night is what actually keeps the result. We'd rather set that expectation at the start than surprise you with it at the end.
Why Lake Success families choose us
Invisalign, planned by a specialist
Aligners are only as good as the plan behind them. Dr. Fung is a board-certified orthodontist — every Lake Success case is diagnosed and sequenced by a specialist, not handed off to a lab.
One office, one doctor, start to finish
You'll see the same orthodontist at every visit. No rotating providers and no handing your file between locations partway through treatment.
Appointments that fit a school schedule
Weekday hours from 10am, and Wednesdays run until 7pm — useful when a school day and a work day have to line up.
Mandarin, Cantonese, and English
Dr. Fung and the team discuss treatment in the language your family is most comfortable with — including grandparents who are part of the decision.

Dr. Shauna Fung, DDS
Dr. Fung has spent close to two decades straightening teeth, and treats patients across the whole span — a seven-year-old's first check-up through to adults finally doing something they'd postponed for thirty years.
Her training: a DDS from NYU's College of Dentistry, then a CODA-accredited orthodontic residency at Montefiore. She holds board certification from the American Board of Orthodontics — voluntary, and earned by submitting her own finished cases for review by other orthodontists.

Lake Success patient questions
- Do you treat patients from Lake Success?
- Yes. Lake Success families are among the communities we serve regularly from our office on Hillside Avenue in New Hyde Park, along with Great Neck, Manhasset, Floral Park, and across Nassau County.
- Is Invisalign available for teenagers?
- Yes. Invisalign works well for many teens, though success depends on wearing the aligners 20 to 22 hours a day. At your consultation Dr. Fung will say honestly whether aligners or braces suit the case better.
- How long does Invisalign treatment take?
- It varies by case. Each aligner is worn for about one to two weeks, and most comprehensive treatment runs a similar length to braces — commonly 18 to 24 months.
- What happens at the first visit?
- The first appointment is a consultation: a full orthodontic examination, a discussion of the options that fit your needs, and time for your questions. Braces or aligners are fitted at a later appointment once a plan is agreed.
