"Dr. Fung and the whole crew are kind, patient, and professional. It is truly a pleasure to have Dr. Fung as my son's orthodontist. Without a doubt, my daughter will be seeing Dr. Fung in a few years as well."— Jalen
An Orthodontist for Garden City Families
Braces, Invisalign, and early treatment for children, teens, and adults — from Dr. Shauna Fung, a board-certified orthodontist. We see Garden City and Garden City Park families at our Hillside Avenue office in New Hyde Park.
Garden City, or Garden City Park?
They sound like the same place and they aren't, which trips up more searches than you'd expect. Garden City is an incorporated village in the Town of Hempstead. Garden City Park is a separate hamlet in the Town of North Hempstead — the one closer to our office.
We see families from both. If you searched for one and meant the other, you're still in the right place — the care, the doctor, and the office on Hillside Avenue are the same either way.
What Garden City families get here
A specialist, not a general practice
Orthodontics is all we do. Dr. Fung completed a full orthodontic residency after dental school and is certified by the American Board of Orthodontics — a credential that is entirely voluntary and requires submitting finished cases for peer review.
Every age, one practice
First check-ups at age 7, teen braces and aligners, and adult treatment for patients who never got around to it. Dr. Fung treats patients from 7 to 70, so families don't need to split between providers.
Complex cases handled in-house
Alongside braces and Invisalign we offer early treatment, temporary anchorage devices, and coordination with an oral surgeon when jaw alignment is the underlying issue.
Digital scans, not putty impressions
iTero digital scanning replaces the tray of impression material for most records — faster, more comfortable, and the scans are stored so a lost retainer can be remade without starting over.
Orthodontics at every age
Children — from about age seven
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends a first check-up at seven. That sounds early, and for most children it is — the majority of early evaluations end with us simply watching how things develop. The point isn't to start treatment; it's to catch the minority of cases where acting during growth genuinely changes what's possible later. Crossbites, severe crowding, and underbites are the clearest examples: guided while the jaw is still developing, they're straightforward. Left until growth finishes, some of them become surgical conversations.
Warning signs worth an early look include difficulty biting or chewing, mouth breathing, jaw shifting, and baby teeth lost much earlier or later than their siblings'.
Teenagers — the classic window
Most comprehensive treatment happens here, once the permanent teeth are in. Braces remain the most predictable option and require nothing to remember; clear aligners suit disciplined teens who will genuinely wear them 20 to 22 hours a day. If appearance is the sticking point, ceramic brackets and gold Iconix brackets are considerably less conspicuous than the metal most parents remember.
Expect roughly 18 to 24 months, with a visit every six to eight weeks.
Adults — later than you think, and not too late
A steady share of our patients are adults, and the mechanics work exactly the same at forty as at fourteen — bone remodels throughout life. Some never had treatment; many had it as teenagers and stopped wearing the retainer, so the lower front teeth crowded back over a decade or two. That's relapse, it's extremely common, and it's usually quicker to correct the second time.
